The Role

Our amazing & young R&D tech team is looking for a highly motivated and innovative Senior R&D Mechanical Designers for developing electric motors and other powertrain related components for electric vehicles. The Senior R&D Mechanical Design Engineers primary duty is the design, development and delivery of electro mechanical systems for the in-wheel motor. Additional duties include the design, development and delivery of prototype parts. As part of the Mechanical Design team, the Senior R&D Mechanical Design Engineer will collaborate cross-functionally with the Engineering teams, Operations and Sourcing teams, to ensure delivery of Company Goals & Targets. They will support and guide the more junior design engineers. The perfect candidate is an R&D enthusiast who loves developing innovative solutions. Responsibilities & Requirements

Specific requirements (loose) and personality traits of desired candidate:

  • Geometrical CAD design (Solid Works, Catia) for stators, rotors and assemblies
  • Execution of analytical calculations and understanding of numerical simulations with focus on structural integrity
  • Usage of analytical tools for bolt connections, thermal expansions and load definition on vehicle components
  • Identifying and qualifying suppliers of raw materials, components, and assemblies
  • Discussing and resolving technically complex problems with manufacturers, suppliers and customers /li>
  • Preparing and performing design reviews to pass through a gated design development process
  • Take over design responsibility from new product development engineers during production launch, ramp and sustaining phase
  • Root-Cause & Corrective Analysis for production issues
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Process, and Quality to solve yield barriers and scrap issues
  • BOM changes, design revisions, scrappy bench-tests for RCCA, etc
  • Design validation and durability testing profile development and data analysis
  • Carry designs through to high-volume production; DFM, cost reductions, and second sourcing
  • Liaising with suppliers with regards to cost, quality and availability of products
  • Supporting DFMEA activities
  • Supporting the production line during snagging when deploying a new design
  • Supporting the validation team with design of tests and interpretation of results
  • Mentoring junior engineers and interns
  • Expected skills: GD&T, 3D CAD, 2D Drawings, Basics of DFMEA & PFMEA,
    Bonus skills: Catia, NVH analysis, electromagnetics design, specification writing, plastic injection molding, bolted joint design, structural and thermal FEA

General requirements (loose) and personality traits of desired candidate:

  • BSc in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or Mechatronics and similar (MSc is a plus, PhD’s are welcome)
  • Proactive and goal-oriented approach – you will be expected to propose and implement creative ideas for improvements
  • Active knowledge of English (spoken & written, B2 level or better) – We also love if you know some words in German🙂
  • A strong desire to learn, grow and challenge yourself and us!
  • Experience in field in manufacturing environment
  • 10 years’ experience with CAD design CATIA V5, Solidworks
  • 5+ years’ experience in automotive industry
  • 10 years computer experience with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • ERP knowledge is a plus
