{"id":6216,"date":"2022-06-27T07:38:02","date_gmt":"2022-06-27T06:38:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/in-wheel.com\/?p=6216"},"modified":"2022-06-27T07:38:38","modified_gmt":"2022-06-27T06:38:38","slug":"elaphe-and-lightyear-develop-the-most-efficient-production-powertrain-in-the-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in-wheel.com\/en\/news\/elaphe-and-lightyear-develop-the-most-efficient-production-powertrain-in-the-world\/","title":{"rendered":"Elaphe and Lightyear develop the most efficient production powertrain in the world"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><strong>With the launch of the Lightyear 0 vehicle, the world&#8217;s first production-ready solar car, Lightyear\u2019s collaboration with Elaphe on the in-wheel motor platform also became public.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-6219 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/in-wheel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/lightyear-elaphe-inwheel-motor_.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"795\" height=\"663\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 795px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 795\/663;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Being in touch with Lightyear\u2019s team for more than half of a decade, many efforts and design loops have been focused on pushing our proprietary electromagnetic layouts to the extremes in all sorts of minute details.<\/p>\n<p><strong>After serious testing and a lot of learning, together, we have achieved in-wheel motor efficiencies of 97%, losing just a fraction of energy through heat. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But the more impressive numbers come in the actual driving cycles of the vehicle \u2013 we managed to tune the motor\u2019s high-efficiency areas to be super-efficient in real life, overall driving scenarios.<\/p>\n<p>The motors, designed specifically for the Lightyear, now offer 91% WLTP cycle energy efficiency.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>While the motors are efficiency champions by themselves, it is the whole vehicle that completes the story. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The vehicle&#8217;s performance matters as a whole, as energy use is dependent on the entire system; and the losses of all the components.<\/p>\n<p>Targeting to build cars that can drive up to 20,000 km per year on the power of the sun, and use so little energy, that they can offer the best km\/minute charging speed, the Lightyear team is solving the issue of insufficient charging architecture and range for long-distance driving.<\/p>\n<p>Lightyear\u2019s focus is, therefore, not only on enabling users to be sustainable in their travels but also on minimizing the downsides of owning an electric car.<\/p>\n<p>With such an inspiring &#8211; and bold &#8211; vision, finding the right partners is an important part of the business.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>As the Lightyear management added;<\/p>\n<p>\u00bbIt\u2019s important to us that our partners not only stand apart as the best in their field but that they share our vision for a brighter future.
